As we reach the mid-point of Term 2 we have a lot to celebrate! Our staff continue to strive for improvement and build opportunities for student success. Some examples of this have been successful submissions for grants, the beginning of our debating team for 2021, student opportunities to engage with new 3D printer, 5/6 students collaborative teaching opportunity in Numeracy and the continued work of our Student Voice Team to support events across the school.
UTAS Prac Students
I would like to welcome 3 UTAS prac students to our school. These students are completing time in our school as part of their professional learning to become teachers. Daisy Spaulding in 3/4 Nichols, Annie Zagni in 3 Pearce and Jenna Sheppard-Hardwick in 5/6 Johnson. We see this relationship with the University as very positive for our school to support the development of future teachers.
K-2 Athletics Carnival
Congratulations to all the students who braved the weather conditions last Thursday and participated in our Infant Athletics Carnival. The event was full of colour and movement with plenty of smiling active faces. I was also very impressed with the parent turnout who cheered and supported students throughout the event. A big thank you to Mr Bailey who organised and coordinated the event.
Reporting Term 2
All Prep – Year 6 students will receive a written progress report at the end of this Term. There will also be an opportunity for all Kinder to Year 6 families to have a parent/teacher interview in the final week of Term 2. We will again have an online booking system that families can log on to and select an interview time that suits their needs. A letter will be sent home to all families with further details next Monday.
Canteen update
As a school we have been working towards building strong links between our kitchen/garden program and canteen service. These links have allowed us to pursue the highest level of accreditation with the Tasmanian Canteen Association. In the coming weeks we hope to make an application for Platinum level which no school has yet achieved.
We have had a very busy term so far. In the classroom we have been focusing on narrative and persuasive writing, problem solving, and developing mental strategies to support with solving addition, subtraction, and division problems. Our class has also been learning about the First Fleet, including the reasons why the First Fleet occurred, and the people involved. Students have particularly enjoyed learning about the living conditions in England in the late 1700’s and the convicts that were sent over to Botany Bay to work or serve a sentence. We have enjoyed our gardening sessions so far getting involved in gardening, drawing, documenting, and cooking delicious meals for the class to enjoy.
We started the term off by thinking about some goals we would like to achieve.
In Literacy we have been learning about narratives. Here are some of our hooks from our narratives:
Ding Dong went the doorbell. I went to see who it was but when I opened the door nobody was there. There was an abnormally large package. Now that I think about it the box was shaking! My goodness could it have been a person that I took into my house? – Emmitt
I found a strange package at the door. I looked around and no one was there so I took it to the post office. I gave it to the post office but then it came back. - Brock
We have been enjoying our Kitchen Garden sessions this year.
KISS & DROP
A friendly reminder that the school 'Kiss & Drop' zone is not for car parking - please do not leave your vehicle unattended in this zone.
STUDENT PICK-UP
If you need to collect students throughout the school day for appointments please arrive in time to allow us to locate your child. We do not call to the classroom until you have arrived. This limits interruptions to the class and avoids your child missing out on valuable learning time. Thank you for you co-operation.
UPDATING STUDENT DETAILS
It is vital for the school office to have updated details for all students. In the event of a medical issue or emergency event this information is crucial in the care and response that we provide for your child/children. Please ensure to update information with the office staff as required: emergency contact details, phone numbers, address details and any changes to your childs' medical needs eg. asthma, anaphylaxis.
ABSENCES / ATTENDANCE
If your child is absent please notify the school office before 9:30am:
- Leave a message on the answering machine 6275 7272

CAR PARK SPEED LIMITS
