It has been wonderful to welcome back our community for the start of Term 2 after an extended Easter and school holiday break. Students have begun the term with a smile full of enthusiasm for new learning! Teachers are excited to continue with learning and our focus of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Island cross curricular focus.
Term 2 is always busy in regard to assessing student progress and putting together student reports for the end of Term 2. As we begin this Term our values focus is linked to Aspiration - What’s your goal? Our SVT have begun the process of choosing members of our school community to be put in the spotlight as Values Champions. You will soon see these people being celebrated within our school community.
NAPLAN
The National Assessment Program-Literacy and Numeracy (NAPLAN) was first undertaken as an online test in Tasmania during 2019. Tasmanian schools will again participate in NAPLAN Online this year. NAPLAN Online provides better assessment and more precise results. The assessments feature a tailored test design where the questions a student receives will depend on their answers to previous questions. NAPLAN testing will be held from the 11 to 21 May 2021. Online testing will be available for each of the NAPLAN year levels (3, 5, 7 and 9). NAPLAN assessments include four components, Writing, Numeracy, Conventions of Language and Reading.

In 1-2 Howell, our class did a tuning in on what we know about ANZAC Day. We gathered our thinking by doing a think, puzzle, explore.
After our tuning in, we listened to two stories, ‘ANZAC Ted’ by Belinda Landsberry and ‘The ANZAC Puppy’ by Peter Millett to explore this further. We decided to make ANZAC Day silhouettes to hang on our classroom windows to commemorate those servicemen and women who fought in war and peacekeeping operations.
1/2 Smith/Parker have had a very busy start to Term 2!
We loved sharing about our holidays and enjoyed a ‘two truths a lie’ style to write about them.
This term we are focusing on narrative writing, place value, fractions, money, problem solving and lots, lots more!
We are also excited to learn and explore about ochre and are looking forward to our excursion to the Sustainability Centre in a few weeks’ time.
Do you have any old mobile phones at home?
We have a MobileMuster collection box in our front office where you can dropoff old phones and chargers to be recycled.
All brands and types of mobile phones can be recycled, plus their batteries, chargers and accessories
MobileMuster is a free mobile phone recycling program that aims to raise awareness and educate the community on repair, reuse and recycling.
